Thomas Andrew Grzyb "Tomeck" Obituary

Thomas Andrew Grzyb “Tomeck”, 84, passed away on May 31, 2025, in Birmingham, Alabama. Born on March 31, 1941, in Milwaukee Wisconsin, Thomas lived a full and vibrant life marked by service, adventure, and deep connections with family and community. Thomas began his journey in Bark River, Michigan, where he spent his early years proudly serving in the United States Army. After his military service, he moved to Chicago, where he built a successful career as a mechanical engineer. In 1993, he retired to Jasper, Alabama a place that would become the heart of many of his passions and gatherings. A man of boundless energy and curiosity, Thomas was known for his love of traveling. He explored 49 out of the 50 U.S. states in his RV and ventured through the provinces of Canada. His adventurous spirit was matched by a deep appreciation for nature; he was an avid deer hunter and a dedicated gun collector. Photography was another passion that allowed him to capture the beauty of his travels, and the moments shared with loved ones. Thomas had a magnetic personality that drew people together. His shop—affectionately known as "The Polish Ponderosa"—was the site of countless lively parties filled with music and laughter. A talented bass guitarist, he played in a band called "River Rats" and found joy attending bluegrass festivals and polka events. Proud of his Polish heritage and equally proud to be an American patriot, Thomas embodied both traditions with pride. He was affectionately known as the “Mayor” around town—not because of any official title but because he was always getting things done. Whether it was helping neighbors or organizing community events, Thomas brought people together with wisdom, positivity, and loving advice. He never argued—he simply “debated,” always with good humor and respect. Thomas is survived by his son Stanley Grzyb and wife Ayumi; daughter Felicia Tran (Grzyb); sister Doris and brother-in-law Paul Levesque; stepchildren Nelta Scara, Micheal, Randy, Harrison, and Steve Chancy; grandsons Take, Jun, Ryo Grzyb; grandsons Anthony Grzyb and Quentin Grzyb; granddaughter Talisha Grzyb; great-grandchildren Ren, Sophia, Emma Grzyb; and great-grandchildren Courtney, Micah, Mason, Tyson, and Titan Grzyb. He was preceded in death by his parents Stanley and Helen Grzyb; beloved wife Verna Grzyb; brother George and sister-in-law Lilian Grzyb; sister Dorothy and brother-in-law Ed Ketcham; and sister Delores Grzyb. A memorial service will be held on June 26, 2025, at 303 Hidden Cove Loop in Jasper, Alabama. The service will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., followed by a dinner provided by the family from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Thomas Andrew Grzyb leaves behind a legacy of warmth, resilience, humor, and connection—a life well-lived that touched many hearts. May he Rest in Peace and may his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
