William Hodgson

Mr. William (Bill) Jackson Hodgson, passed away on January 17, 2024, with his family by his side.

He was born in Kansas, Alabama on January 18, 1936. He attended Kansas Elementary School, and later graduated from Carbon Hill, High School in 1954. He attended the the University of Tennessee before serving his county in the United States Army. After being discharged, he moved to Indiana where he worked for Ford Motor Company. He married his wife of 62 years, and moved back to Walker County where he bought a small store. They eventually owned and operated Hodgson's Food Store in Carbon Hill, for more than 40 years. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, and horses; but mostly listening to Becky sing gospel songs.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, January 24, 2024 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel, Carbon Hill, Alabama. A visitation from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. will be held Thursday January 25, 2024 at the First Methodist Church in Carbon Hill, Alabama prior to the Funeral Service at 12:00 P.M. with burial to follow in the Carbon Hill Memorial Gardens. Brother Dwight Geist will be officiating the service.

He is preceded in death by his son, William Jackson Hodgson II; mother, Bertie Mae Jackson Hodgson; father, Jefferson Stable Hodgson; brother, Jeffery Stables Hodgson; sister, Ann Hodgson Parrish and sister, Martha Hodgson Huett.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca (Becky) Hodgson; daughter, Peggy Hodgson (Bill Brownell); daughter, Martha Ingram (Ken); grandson, William Taylor Keeton; brother, Colonel George Gilder Hodgson (Susan); brother, James Edward Hodgson (Elaine); sister, Linda Hodgson Pair and sister- in- law , Thelma Duart Hodgson (Jeffery).

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Drew Townley and Kjerstin Hubbert for their selfless care and support.

Caregivers: Casandra Lynn, Leigh Manasco, Jennah Jackson, Angie Poole, and the Enhabit Hospice Care team.

It is at the family's request that donations be made to the First Methodists Church's Safe Harbor missions thrift store in Carbon Hill, Alabama or to the VFW in Carbon Hill, in lieu of flowers.
