It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Ronald (Papaw) Odom. He was born June 10, 1941 and unexpectedly departed this world on October 13, 2025. At the time of his passing, Ronnie was at home doing the things that made him happiest.
He is preceded in death by: his parents, Raymond and Eula Jane Manasco Odom; eight siblings: Lois Odom Blackwell, Loydd Odom, Lowell Odom, Inez Odom Kimbrell, Irene Odom Thrasher, Margaret Odom Tucker, Earl Odom, Ralph Odom; as well as many brothers and sisters-in-law.
Ronnie is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Janis Russell Odom of Sumiton; one sister, Marie Odom Mathews; two sisters-in-law, Donna Russell and Susan Russell Bennett; three children, Jeffrey (Carolyn) Odom of Jasper, Raymond (Christina) Odom of Hoover, and Paulette Odom of Sumiton, and one daughter-in-law, Rebbecca Whisenhunt Odom of Pinson.
He was blessed to love and be loved by five cherished grandchildren, one great grandson, and a host of nieces and nephews.
While Ronnie was a true jack of all trades, he spent the majority of his career and retired as an electrician from the Jim Walter Coal Mines. Papaw Ronnie was the epitome of the adage, “Actions speak louder than words.” He was a quiet man who lived life on his own terms, completely devoted to caring for others. He gave freely of his time and skills without ever asking for anything in return.
His humble perseverance gave him an air of invincibility that evoked respect and sparked awe in those blessed enough to know him. His teasing snark, gentle grins, and quiet chuckles will forever be missed.
Arrangements for a grave-side memorial service will be announced at a later date.
