Michael “Mo” Johnson, lovingly known to his grandchildren as “Mike Mike,” was born on March 28, 1962, in Winfield, Alabama and passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, October 18th, 2026.
He grew up in Carbon Hill, Alabama and graduated from Carbon Hill High School in 1980.
Mike was the kind of person who never met a stranger. Whether he was on a motorcycle, at work, spending time with family, or talking with someone he had just met, he had a way of making friends with good folks. If you spent a few minutes with Mike, chances are you left with a story, a laugh, or a new friend.
Mike dedicated 31 years of service to Alabama Power as a lineman. He took great pride in his work, the friendships he built, and the life he created.
Mike loved his Harley-Davidson motorcycles and the freedom of the open road. Some of his happiest moments were spent riding and simply seeing where the road might lead. He lived with a sense of spontaneity and a willingness to say “yes” to life.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Harlis D. Johnson; his wife of 30 years, Anita Johnson, who passed away in 2022 after a courageous battle with ALS; his infant grandson, Jeffrey Hayden Webster; and his best friends, Lyman “Mac” McBrayer and Randy Sanderson.
He is survived by his mother, Linda Ann Webster Johnson; his children, Joseph Michael Johnson (Monica), Callie Kristen Doss (Jacob), Brandon Wright, and Jessica Wright; his grandchildren, Jenna Kate Wright, Michael Cade Doss, Keelie Anita Evans, Lanie Elizabeth Doss, Preston Harlis Johnson, Jack Blane Doss, Aubrie Ella Johnson, and Liana Melinda Wright; his great-grandson, Draven Michael Frost; his siblings, Jonathon Wayne Johnson (Andrea), Franklin Howard Johnson (Stephanie), Rhonda Ann Sides (Kent), and James Harlis Johnson (Kimberly); along with many adored nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Those who knew Mike will remember his adventurous spirit and his quick smile. He leaves behind a lifetime of stories, friendships, laughter, and memories that will continue to be shared by those who loved him.
In Mike’s own words, he lived a life he loved. He was honored to do work he genuinely enjoyed, grateful to share 30 years with the love of his life, and fortunate to spend his days surrounded by family, friends, and the hobbies that brought him excitement and joy. He had fun, he loved deeply, and he lived fully.
The Johnson and Doss families would like to extend a lifetime of gratitude to his nurse, Leslie Roberts Hoobler, and special friend, Kila Caudle, who each took great care of both Mike and Anita at the end of their lives.
Rather than sending flowers, Mike’s family encourages those who wish to honor his memory to make a donation in Anita’s name to ALS research through The ALS Association (https://www.als.org/ways-give).
Mike’s life was rich in friendship, adventure, laughter, and love, and his legacy will live on in all who knew him.
