Larkin Daniel Self

Larkin Daniel Self, born on July 12, 1971, passed away on July 20, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of service, compassion, and musical devotion. His life was characterized by commitment to faith, community, and the enrichment of others through his ministry and leadership.

Larkin was the beloved son of Wanda Johnson Self and the late Rev. Danny Self. He is survived by his mother Wanda, his sister Patty Hubbard and her husband Kevin Hubbard, and a circle of devoted friends and relatives: Jimmy and Lori Lemmons, his cousin Daryl Rollins, and adoptive family Sherry Webb, Mitch Webb, Jerry Roden, Pat Jones, and David Jones.

He was preceded in death by a cherished family lineage that shaped his character and values. Remembering him fondly are his grandparents Larkin and Lou Emma Johnson, grandparents Clinton and Lora Self, great-grandparents W.O. Self, Inda Self, Julius Flippo, and Alma Flippo, his uncle Lewis C Harbin, aunt Shelby Harbin, and the Terry (Jack) Johnson Family, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. 

Larkin dedicated his life to spiritual growth and community support. He was the founder of Dying to Live Ministry, a testament to his vision and unwavering commitment to uplifting those around him. Further exemplifying his leadership, Larkin guided the Soaring Eagles Senior Adults as director. 

Academically, Larkin demonstrated resilience and perseverance. He earned an Associate’s Degree in Music from Walker College in 2001 and continued his studies at Lee University, graduating in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in Church Music—Voice Emphasis, along with minors in Bible and Youth and Christian Education. Through these academic achievements, he harnessed his love of music and faith into tools for service and guidance.

A visitation for Larkin Daniel Self will be held on July 24, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Nauvoo Church of God, 130 Mill Creek Rd, Nauvoo, AL 35578. The funeral service will follow at the same location at 3:00 p.m.

Larkin leaves a profound and enduring impact on every life he touched, remembered for his dedication, generosity, and leadership. His influence in ministry and music will resonate within his community for years to come.
