With heavy hearts, the family of James Keeton announces his peaceful passing on Tuesday afternoon, July 21, 2026, at the hospital. Born in Nauvoo, Alabama, on April 9, 1951, James lived a life filled with love, dedication, and passion for his family and his work.

James was the beloved son of the late Marion and Estelle Keeton, who instilled in him strong values and a tireless work ethic. He carried these lessons throughout his life, particularly in his long and respected career as an overhead crane operator at McLouth Steel in Trenton, Michigan. James was known for his unwavering dedication and skill, earning the admiration and respect of his colleagues.

Outside of work, James found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved spending time in nature, whether it was casting a line on a quiet lake or tending to his garden, nurturing plants with the same care and attention he gave to his family. His most treasured moments, however, were those spent with his beloved grandchildren. James was a devoted grandfather who cherished every laugh and smile shared with his eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

James leaves behind a loving family who will continue to honor his legacy. He is survived by his four sons: Mark Keeton, Shane Keeton and his wife Amy, Dustin Keeton and his wife Julie, and Stephen Keeton. His memory also lives on through his brother Jr Keeton, sister Marilyn Freeman, and his cherished niece Michelle Cleveland.

In keeping with his family's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to celebrate James's life.

James Keeton will be remembered as a gentle soul who found joy in the everyday moments and in the love of his family. His legacy of kindness, hard work, and love will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to know him.
