Ida Laverne Whisenhunt, born on June 2, 1939, entered her heavenly home on November 30, 2025, peacefully in her own residence with her daughter and granddaughter by her side.
Born to the late Flownie and Willie Ashby Eby. Ida grew up in Bear Creek, North Carolina, where she learned the values of hard work, faith, and devotion to family—principles she carried with her throughout her life. At the young age of 13, she married the love of her life, Gene Whisenhunt, and together they built a large and loving family.
Ida was the proud mother of five children: Linda (Jimmy) Dupree, Frank Whisenhunt, Tone Whisenhunt, Lorianne Whisenhunt, and Tracie Whisenhunt. Her legacy of love extends through more than 50 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Gene, her son Frank, and her daughter Lorrianne
Ida had a heart of pure gold—always putting the needs of her family before her own. Her favorite time of year was Christmas; she found joy in decorating and made certain that every child and grandchild had a stocking, no matter how far away they lived. Creating warmth and togetherness for her family was her greatest gift.
In recent years, Ida moved to Haleyville, Alabama, to be near her granddaughter and great-grandchildren, continuing to surround herself with the family she cherished so deeply.
Those who knew Ida will remember her unconditional love, her generous spirit, and the quiet strength with which she cared for the people she held dear. Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and she will be deeply missed by all who loved her.
