Gary James Compton, 69, born in Montgomery, Alabama, passed away at home on Monday, August 12, 2024.

Family will be receiving friends from 6:30 until 8 p.m., at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home, Thursday, August 15, 2024.  A celebration of life service will be held in the Kilgore-Green Chapel at 8 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that you make donations in his name to your favorite charity.

Gary grew up in Birmingham, Alabama. He moved to Walker County in 1977 to pursue

a career in Law Enforcement. He retired from the insurance industry after thirty-three

years working for various companies.

He is preceded in death by his father, James Richard Compton; mother, Emma Jane

Compton; and his sister, Elaine Compton.

He is survived by his loving wife Carolyn Diane Compton, of forty-three years; son

David Bradford Keeton and daughter Kelly Jane Poe; two grandchildren Jaxson Bryant

Poe and Payton Jane Poe; Sister-in-law, Betty Brown and husband Ronnie; along with

their children Ryan and Brandi Hall and Ben and Mandi Panter; Sister-in-law Debra

Garrett and her husband Billy; with their children Brannon and Amber Garrett and

Landon and Ashley Waid; as well as host of family and friends and two special friends of the

family Cindy Fine, Hannah Swinford and Hillary McNair.

Gary was a member of Aircraft Owners Pilot's Association, The Experimental Aircraft

Association, and Fraternal Order of Eagles. Gary had a lot of wonderful characteristics

but above all, he had the biggest heart. He was the first to offer a helping hand to

anyone in need. He knew only one way to face anything and that was wide open.
