Earnest Franklin “Frank” Windham went home to Jesus with Brenda waiting on him at the gate on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at the age of 85.
Frank was a family man and always put his family first. Frank worked at a Gas Station in Moundville, AL; Drove a delivery truck for Purolator; Buster Hulsarts in Tuscaloosa, AL; Borden Chemical Company in Demopolis, Marengo County; and he completed his working career at B. F. Goodrich in Tuscaloosa. He adored playing baseball and watching the Atlanta Braves. If you knew Frank, you knew to find him on the river. He enjoyed many years at the Alabama River fishing in Pine Barren Creek and Rum Creek. He loved owning a place on the river and was there every weekend during the 90’s and enjoyed camping at Cilatchee Creek (Lot #21) and Roland Cooper State Park. He will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him and now the fish can sleep sounder at night.
Survived by daughters Sheila Windham Hoggle of Tuscaloosa, AL and Lori Windham Leavelle (Kenny) of Eutaw, AL, grandsons Joshua Alexander McCool (Samantha “Samie”) of Birmingham, AL, Hayden Micheal Hoggle, Parker Franklin Hoggle, and Daniel Ty Hoggle of Tuscaloosa, AL and great grandson Camden Alexander McCool, of Birmingham, AL. Siblings include Thomas “Tutor” Windham (Tuscaloosa County, AL), Lily Duncan (Hale County, AL), and Margaret Meikel (Bruce) (North Dakota). Extended family members include sister-in-law’s Annie Laurie Walton Windham (Ralph), Mary Alene Windham (Northport), Barbara Gayle Jones Hamer (Carson City, Nevada – his wife’s sister) and numerous nieces and nephews. Honorary grandchildren include Daniel Craig Parker and Candice Roxanne Parker Brownlee who spent many years in his home and at the river with the family.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Brenda Jones Windham, who was his heart; His parents Clifton Ferrell and Lois Meggs Windham of Hale County, AL; Siblings include his brothers William Clifton “Buddy” Windham (Juanita), Wilmer Eugene “Gene” Windham, Louis Ferrell “Hezzy” Windham, Bobby Lee Windham (Frances), John Rufus “Johnny” Windham (Kathy), and sisters Mary Alice Windham Stone (Morris), Edna Beatrice “BB” Windham Black (Samuel), Dorothy Windham Tubbs (Elmer), Frances Windham Johnson (Richard), Mabry Sue Windham Cole, Sara Ann Windham and a baby brother; Brother in law Stanley Duncan; Nieces Elizabeth Windham Crawford and Melanie Renae Windham Coleman; Nephew Kenny Windham (Esther), and Ricky Johnson.
Honorary Pallbearers are: Todd and August Lavender Family, Chris Connel Family, Tommy and Mary Wilcox Family, Retirees of B.F. Goodrich and the fellows that hang out at Jacks Restaurant in Northport every morning and drink coffee and fellowship, Hospice of West Alabama, The Jacks Restaurant Crew, Recreation.gov employees and especially Tracy and Linda Orr.
Frank will join Brenda in Cremation with ashes spread at their special spot, where much love and fun were enjoyed for years and which fed our family a lifetime. In lieu of flowers and gifts, please donate to St. Jude’s for Children Research Hospital at Stjude.org or at 1-800-805-5856.
