Betty J Downs

Betty J Downs, 87, passed away on August 31, 2026.

Betty will be remembered as a woman who found joy in the simple and lasting things of life. She was an avid crappie fisherman, and she loved to garden and tend her flower beds. She was also known as a great cook, and some of her happiest times were spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her life was shaped by these everyday gifts of love, care, and time shared with those closest to her.

She is survived by her husband, Jackie Ray Downs. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Chase Clark, Cody Webb, and Chris Webb, who were an important part of her life and brought her much happiness.

Betty was preceded in death by her daughters, Karen R. Clark and Pamela S. Guthrie; her sisters, Shirley Tidwell and Reba Tidwell; her brothers, Tommy Edward Guthrie and Jimmy Guthrie; and her parents, Ada Guthrie and Tommy Guthrie. She will be remembered with love by her family and by all who knew her.

Visitation will be held on September 3, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory, 31404 NE 1st Ave, Carbon Hill, AL 35549. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory in Carbon Hill. Burial with Follow at Guthrie Cemetery, Townley, Alabama. 

Betty’s memory will live on in the hearts of those she loved so well.
